Fios Dropping Channels - PROVIDENCE - If you're a Verizon Fios customer with big plans to watch Sunday's New England Patriots game on Channel 12, you might have to call.

Verizon customers who tried to turn on Channel 12 on Saturday, also a NewsNation channel, were greeted with a white screen that read: "We are disappointed that we cannot reach an agreement to continue the program with Nexstar. This channel."

An orange banner with the same message greeted visitors to the station's website, which settled the dispute over the program agreement: "Verizon FIOS cuts you WPRI, but they pay you monthly for our content."

A statement from the station says: "WPRI has offered a fair price compensation based on the value and value it brings to viewers of our program. Despite our tireless efforts, Verizon FiOS has rejected our fair offer and is making negotiations difficult. You may have seen them in action. They will tell you it's good for you, but don't believe it. Our offer is good. Now they are binding you subscriber. This is not true."

Meanwhile, Verizon explained the dispute on its website: "Our contract with Nexstar expired on October 14, 2022 and your Fios TV package includes Nexstar channels. ... Nexstar offered to charge 64% more for programming. Verizon is committed to bringing these channels to our customers, but cannot accept such an unimaginable increase."

According to Verizon's website, the dispute affects 33 stations in six states between Virginia and Rhode Island.

If you want to watch the Patriots play the Cleveland Browns at 1 pm on Sunday, Channel 12 is still online, and other streaming services such as Paramount+ and YouTubeTV carry Channel 12 and offer free trial times, according to their websites. The two companies have been negotiating since March 1, but FiOS took WBOC and its affiliates offline this weekend, affecting 11,500 subscribers in Sussex and Kent County, Delaware.

"We are hopeful that Verizon will recognize the value of the local news, weather and emergency information we provide to Delmarva and continue to work with us to continue providing local programming and networks," said Draper Media President Craig Jahelka.

"Unfortunately, we have been plagued by Verizon's slow behavior for six months, and at this point it appears that the company has no interest in serving its subscribers or the community."

WBOC and its affiliates, including Fox 21 and WBOC Classics, are owned and operated by Draper Holdings. WBOC was purchased by the late Thomas Draper in 1980.

Verizon responded with a statement saying TheDraper Media wanted to raise their rate by 175%.

Stargirl Fam With Fios

"Our goal is to provide consumers with the best television experience while keeping prices as low as possible," the statement said. "Despite our efforts to do this with Draper (Holdings), they have pulled their channels from Fios TV. We hope they will reconsider their rate of increase of 175 percent, which is not a good price for our customers."

"We're not saying it outright, what Verizon says is a lie and a lie!" Jahelka wrote. "It is true that Verizon now pays more to carry non-local stations than WBOC and FOX21."

Jahelkaadd said they "have not reviewed" the stations, and they continue to broadcast local and network programming online and from "other cables and satellites that operate Delmarva."

Jahelkacon said he regrets dropping the Verizon FiOS ports and remains "ready and willing" to resolve the issue.
