Ar Pistol Ammo - When it comes to AR-15s, you have a wide selection of rifle calibers, and many of them are widely available at local gun stores, online retailers, and everyone's favorite gun shows. Most shooters will choose the popular .223 Remington or 5.56x45mm. Both are common, expensive, and provide adequate power.

But every now and then, when you're tired of shooting the same old round, you want to mix up your shooting experience with, say, a 6.5 Grendel or a .300 Blackout.

Choosing a new phase for the AR-15 project isn't always easy. For the most part, you'll need to top up your gun. It can be very expensive.

Here's The List Of The Best Home Defense And Range Ammo For The Ar 15

The BL.300 is arguably one of the more popular AR-15s on the market. The round features a .223 case, and a solid .30 caliber.

Many use the Blackout .300 round to hunt deer and the occasional hog. For anything in the 250 yard range, the .300 Blackout falls flat compared to other calibers.

The 6.5 Grendel round is chambered in 7.62x39, which is the same case used in the AK-47 design and uses a .264 caliber bullet. Unlike the .300 BLK, the 6.5 Grendel is known for its exceptional ballistic performance. When fired, the Grendel rifle is less vulnerable to road traffic, and as such, is often used for deer hunting up to 300 yards.

The .458 SOCOM round was originally designed for close combat (CQB). The cartridge is a lightweight version of the .50 AE designed specifically for the .458 caliber. It is usually a heavier bullet that is built to produce greater kinetic energy when fired.

Ideally, you'll be using a subsonic round and suppressor with the .458 SOCOM. It works well with both/one and the same.

If you look back at our "look" section, you'll remember that the .50 Beowulf is the most expensive option available for an AR-15. It is also powerful. If you use the .50 Beowulf for hunting purposes, it will kill any game it comes in contact with.

The downside, of course, is that the price is the biggest result of the wheel. After all, this is a bullet designed to stop a car.

When it comes to one of the most popular and well-made calibers, the number of options can be overwhelming!

A little knowledge can go a long way and choosing the right ammunition for your needs is not as difficult as it seems.

The short note is that any barrel marked 5.56 NATO or .223 Wylde can shoot .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO just fine.

Barrels marked .223 Remington should ONLY be fed .223 Remington. Technically, these are rooms - not measurements. The difference is small but really, the .223 Rem is a little smaller chambered.

This is good for accuracy and consistency, but not so great if you're making military ammunition and bullets. When the 5.56 NATO was approved, it was approved with a higher velocity than the .223 Remington.

Wylde is a mixture of the two. Not as small as .223 rem, not as big as 5.56 NATO. This gives you the ability to use both types of bullets, but also takes some of the accuracy out of it.

.223 Remington stocks are very rare in AR-15s these days, but there are some very rare ones out there.

Twist rate is the speed at which your barrel gives a twist to the bullet. Like a soccer ball in the air with a good spiral, adding a ball to the ball makes it fly with more stability.

For barrels, this is expressed as 1 twist per centimeter. 1:12 therefore means that the bullet makes a full revolution, every 12 inches of the barrel. A 1:8 would be 1 twist per 8 inches.

Don't worry if your barrel is shorter than your twist, you don't really have to twist the bullet to get spin.

In fact, oddly enough the bullet will be sharp enough with a 1" barrel. Amazing, right?

Technically, how much distortion the bullet needs in the right place depends on when the bullet is.

However, length is annoying for people to pay attention to and since weight has a lot to do with how long a bullet will last - we generally use bullet weight to match.

Anything lower is only used for varmint hunting and anything higher is heavy on the long line.

If you want to do an all-rounder I highly recommend the 1:8 twist. 55gr will work well in it and heavier 62gr and 77gr will work wonders.

1:7 was the gold standard for all applications—and it is the ratio of the M4 rifle, but this is largely due to the need for a more stable stance than usual.

You'll run across some ammunition like the XM855 or XM193 and you might wonder what separates them from the official military M855 and M193 (or one of the other XM's and Ms.

Are You Shooting The Best Ar 15 Ammo Possible?

Mostly, nothing. It doesn't mean anything. Technically, this is not subject to the term. Some manufacturers call their ammunition "XM" and others call it "M".

Brands that use "XM" mean that they use it to differentiate the "M" SKUs they measure and sell to military or LEO customers.Â

Another great type of ammo you'll run into is "Green" 5.56 NATO. M855 is the official military designation for the 62-gauge 5.56 NATO cartridge.

Winchester's .350 Legend: A Multi Purpose Ar 15 Round?

There are pros and cons to Green Tip ammo, personally, I say there are more pros than cons.

Technically, the M855 is not "armor piercing" according to how the ATF defines AP classes - so it's perfectly acceptable for civilians to purchase.

But it is also heavier than other types of ammunition, often inaccurate, and penetration is much better on barriers than on weapons.

Yes, the M855 will fly smoothly through Class III weapons and all light body armor. But that's basically why the Tier III+ armor was designed, to reinforce the Tier III so it could stop the M855.

If the bad guy is putting armor, I'd be surprised if they put a level III when the III+ is more available and basically the same price.

While many of the M855's features at the end of the world may be good, they are not ideal for everything else.

In such situations, most of us turn to whatever is cheaper. Typically, these will be steel bullets.

The gun is a really strong one, the 7.62×39 has been used since its inception. But it's not as good as copper.

Copper is flexible and will expand into the room well to accommodate the gas fireplace while also being easy to remove.

The metal does not expand or compress evenly, this makes the dirt active and requires more gas power to remove it.

Being so cheap is a good thing for steel ammo, it's very forgiving for that spec. A maximum spread of 50-70 meters per second is very likely.

Diaphragms are often used with metal bullets, but they are not terrible. Lucky Gunner tested 10,000 rounds of both types of ammunition (20k total) and 10k rounds of brass.

The results of the study resulted in zero negative performance for copper, but 24 composites for steel.

A performance of about 1 per 1,000 rounds for metal-cavity ammo is actually not bad, as long as your life doesn't depend on it.

Steel is also tough on your gun. While common steel can be coated in lacquer to aid in absorption, it will stick to the barrel chamber and throat faster than brass.

The outgoing ones are cheap to replace, but a new barrel is added. In general, nothing but an AR-15 rifle will last 8,000-11,000 rounds before becoming too reliable.
